Our goal is to create a "destination" playground that is the centerpiece of the Sophie and Madigan Lillard Memorial Park. Our main objective during the design and development process is to create a playground that is unlike any other and one that is themed so it reflects the personalities and spirits of Sophie and Madigan.
We envision a playground that incorporates elaborate theming into several distinct play areas and makes use of extensive landscaping to create natural borders. Imagine children walking across the deck of a pirate ship play structure, a child swinging back and forth on a swing shaped like a bird, or children climbing a ladder to a princess castle slide; all surrounding a carousel themed sitting area.
Keep watching here for specific information about the playground, including concept drawings.
The Sophie and Madigan Lillard Memorial Park is in the early stages of planning and development. While it is still a work in process, it has already achieved several important milestones.
The memorial park will be approximately ten acres of family friendly green space, including walking trails, picnic areas, and a themed playground. The park will be located off of Old National Pike on the west end of Frederick and will become part of the City of Frederick park system. It is a beautiful space with mature trees and a lovely stream. The Mayor and Board of Alderman have supported and approved this location.
